There's this really cool photo op near where I live. Can Matt come out and shoot it?
Matt is always on the look out for beauty in the world - he never goes anywhere without his camera! Send through a suggestion and he'll try to make it there but only if he has time - there's always so much to do! If it's something you really want Matt to capture, you can always book him for a commissioned image shoot.
What is the difference between stretched/laminated and unlaminated/unstretched?
Our canvas product (that you can see hung on the walls of MIGallery), with a rigid shape is stretched and laminated. The other end of the spectrum is a plain piece of canvas with Matt's image printed on it - unstretched and unlaminated.
The ink on the canvas is easily marked and scuffed - even by just brushing past it. To make the canvas product more durable, we laminate it. The laminate contains UV protectants and creates a kind of varnish which reduces the likelihood of scuffs and scratches and also holds the colour for over 100 years (the technology hasn't been around for any longer, otherwise we would probably know that it can do well over that number). The laminate also includes a UV protectant and anti fungal treaters.
The "stretching" part comes when we to turn the pretty piece of cloth into something you can hang on your wall. We build an internal frame structure and literally stretch the canvas around it. We also add a string to the back so it's ready for you to hang.
We offer our canvas products at all three stages as some people prefer to do different things with their canvas - some are overseas and want to save on the postage and use their local stretcher.
How do I get in contact with Matt?
You can either use our contact us page or send an email to hi@mattirwin.com. If Matt's out on a shoot or somewhere else random, the friendly MIPsters will help you out with any questions you might have.
Can I get you to print my own pictures?
You certainly can! And these will generally be cheaper than our normal prices because you're not paying for Matt's image. We'll even help you with the photoshopping or removing those pesky red eyes if needs be.
Send us an email with your details and we'll arrange a quote for you. You'll get all of the MIP quality product with your own image.
We certainly can! We are happy to make custom orders - canvas, frames, prints, anything! You'll get all of the MIP quality product but in a format that works best for you.
Send us an email with your contact and details or what you would like and we'll arrange a quote for you.
What makes MIP canvases better than others?
We use the best possible components and hand make every piece.
We use high quality stretcher bars, held together with stainless steel staples that don't rust, tarnish, bend or break. The canvas itself is high grade, acid free cotton polyester and we imprint it with archival pigment inks. This is all put together by hand, finished and glossed with a satin UV protective laminate which ensures over 100 years of colour retention.
I have some old photos lying around. Can you help me with getting them framed?
We would be happy to. We can help you with the measurements and requirements for your frame and talk you through the components of the order. We then put your custom order through our company framer and pass the savings on to you.
I'm looking for something different to the normal photo paper - can you suggest anything?
We regularly print on lustre paper (these look like real photos), but we also work with a matte finish. In addition to the standard paper, we can also print on polypropylene, cotton rag, water resistant printable signage vinyl and so on. Send us an email and tell us what you'd like to do and we'll help you with choosing your medium.
I want to get myself a Matt Irwin print but am too busy to get to your Gallery. What can I do?
If you haven't already, have a look through our website catalogue to choose your image. You can then click on the image and the "more info" button to select the medium and size of the print.
If yours is a custom order or you're having trouble with making a decision, please get in touch - we're happy to help! Just pick up the phone or drop us a line.
We can even post your image out to you if you don't have time to collect it!
How do I find out more about what Matt's doing?
Become a MIP subscriber. You'll also get the first word on upcoming sales, new images and the chance to enter our exclusive competitions.
Can I do work experience with Matt?
Here at MIP, we take three or four work experience students per year, depending on dates and availability. We are only able to accept students at a high school level and not interns (sorry!).
The best way to apply is to email Michelle with a little about yourself (why you want to do your work experience with Matt), the dates you're requesting and your contact details.
Matt started out as just another Melburnian with a love for his city and an aptitude for snapping a scene. Over the years, he has expanded his portfolio to include hundreds of images of our fair town and many others. Click here to read more.
Is this the work of one photographer or several artists?
Just one - Matt Irwin. Matt has been operating his business since 1990 and every single one of the photos you see for sale were taken by him. He rarely goes anywhere without his camera so there are loads of great pictures for you to enjoy.
Not only is he good at what he does but incredibly versatile in style.
No they're not - they're actually all photographs. Matt manages to capture the beauty and essence of each place he visits. The great thing about that is that each image can be reproduced for you and every one of your friends!
Unfortunately Matt no longer runs workshops, however he does offer one on one sessions. These are actually better as they give you the opportunity to utilise Matt's undivided attention. He'll even teach you how to get the best out of your camera!
How long will it take until I receive my order?
This depends on what your order is. If you have ordered a canvas, our production time is two to three weeks. Frames take an extra week as there is an added step in the process. If you have ordered something we already have in stock, like cards or perhaps a lustre print with mount, we'll get it out to you as soon as possible. Of course, if you live in Brighton, England, it will take a little longer to get to you than in Brighton, Victoria.
We do accept rush orders (wherever possible), however these do affect our standard operations and will attract a fee.
Do you ship outside of Melbourne?
We sure do. We can ship to wherever you are - interstate, overseas or next door. The shipping costs are based on both distance and weight. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email us for a quote.
